Chateau Noir
“I’d like to combine melancholy and sunshine…”
– Paul Cezanne
In the dying season
the people of my country
gather together
We bring with us
our melancholy
our grief
our losses
our soul searing depression
We heave it all
into a great vat
along with sad stories
and heartrending laments
We trample these
the tragedies
of our lives
under our feet
until the clumped grief
becomes the fluid
of free flowing sorrow
All the while
tasting each other’s tears
blending them in
just so
This must
is fermented in barrels
of fresh
spring cut maple
to mellow
the iconic bitter palate
The resulting wine
well aged
is always incomparable
This year’s
in particular
promises to be
a magnificent vintage
